Speaking at a media gathering, Kanthi Jayamaha who is the person behind the concept of Broadway said that they have planned have so much for the restaurant such as movies and musicals and making it a very different concept to what is already there in town.
The menu on board the Broadway consists of burritos, crisp salads, pastas, nasi goring, prawn salads, chocolate fudge pies and much more.

The CR&FC grounds in Colombo will come alive with carnival style atmosphere with a 15,000 sq ft marquee specially setup for the festivities. The Mount Lavinia Hotel will provide authentic German cuisine, which will of course include all the must have Oktoberfest specialities. Live music will be provided by the traditional Bavarian ‘Oompah’ band Waidigel 7, a troupe of musicians who are as unique as their name and their style of entertainment which aims to provide a pure party atmosphere. (st) Whether playing his trademark cut shot over point, bowling his slow left-arm spin or grooving to eastern beats, Sri Lanka’s ace cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya, has a knack for adding a magic touch to whatever he does. This time around the Master Blaster has taken guard for a different innings – one of the culinary kind. He launched “Qbaa” – a fine dining restaurant in Colombo 5 while T20 excitement was at fever pitch.
Located at No 2, De Fonseka Place, Colombo 5, the restaurant has a relaxed ambience. Suzie Illangakoon, one of the four partners of Qbaa and a long-time friend of Sanath’s believed that he would be genuinely interested in starting up the venture. The four partners are Suzie, Shamendra Tilakasiri, Roger Perera, and Sanath himself.
The spacious bar boasts live performances by jazz artist Keithan Carter, who’ll keep the groove going four days a week.
“What sets Qbaa apart from many other fine-dining restaurants is that it has an indoor dining court, a rooftop lounge, wine cellar and pub all in one,” M. Mohan Raj, the General Manager at Qbaa told the Sunday Times. (dn) A team of 15 Sri Lankan chefs have set off to Germany to take part in the Culinary Olympic Challenge.

Chairman of the Chefs Guild Gerard Mendis will lead his men into Germany with one objective on his mind: The Medal. "The entire event is based on a Christmas theme since it is getting close to the festive season. We cannot open the contest to all the hotels in Sri Lanka because of restricted space. So we have limited it to the key star class hotels and all the five star hotels in Colombo and hotels identified from the Aitken Spence, John Keels and the Mercantile group like Kandalama and Heritance," said Mendis.

The public event “Hawkers’ street food promotion” is scheduled to take place at ‘Board Walk’ of Waters Edge ,Battaramulla from 05th to 07th October 2012 this year.
Sri Lanka Tourism initiated this event in 2005 in order to popularize spiced cuisine among foreign visitors and to offer more dining options for both local and foreign visitors in Hotels & Restaurants. Further, it is also expected to have Sri Lankan counterparts given cross exposures in international spiced cuisine.
15 signature chefs from different countries such as India, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, Latin American, China, Middle East, Mongolia and Mexica etc., are expected to take part in this mega culinary event.
(dn) Chef Anthony Bradley hails from the US who is an expert in Cajun/Creole, Caribbean and Southwestern style of cuisinem is now here in Sri Lanka. He will showing off his skills from October 4 to 16 with the aromas of the great bayou country.

New Orleans Café, The New Orleans, Nippers Seafood and Bar, Darling's Restaurant and Arroyo Grille are some of the places he has built his career at.
(dn) The cuisine in the coastal regions of India is distinct because of the sharp spices, intense aroma and the rich curries. Navratna presents an authentic menu that captures the flavours of these regions from Kerala to Mangalore to Goa.
Coastal cuisine uses coconut liberally in various forms such as grated, dry grated, fried, coconut paste and coconut milk. Many masalas have dried red chilies and other spices like coriander seeds, peppercorns, cumin, cardamom, ginger, garlic and more. Some dishes also use kokum, dried kokam, tamarind, and raw mango.

With my visit to 'Flag & Whistle Family Restaurant', I was able to bask in the enthralling atmosphere which surrounded me.
The restaurant is located on the 5th floor of the Maritime centre, to be exact of the location it is 256, Srimath Ramanathan Mawatha, Colombo 15. Having been located at the outskirt of Colombo, right opposite of the Port of Colombo, one is able to enjoy a breath taking view from north to south of the Port. It is vital to mention that it is the only restaurant where you can admire the entire port of Colombo.
The restaurant is open from 11am - 2pm and again from 5pm till midnight. As it has ample parking facilities one will not have to encounter any difficulty at all.
(dn) The Gallery Café moved into the Hall of Fame - awarded at the 5th Sri Lanka Tourism Awards ceremony held at Waters Edge when it won the Best Themed Cuisine Restaurant for the third consecutive year. Opened in 1998 in a structure which was the former office of the world renowned Sri Lankan architect, the late Geoffrey Bawa, this restaurant comes with his blessings.
The café attracts visitors not only for meals but for that morning cuppa to be enjoyed with a slice of delicious cake and or shopping at the Café’s Gift Store or the Studio which adjoins the Café. The premise boasts an art gallery which features exhibitions regularly of both local and foreign artists. Some might ask why the Gallery Café does not change its’ menus – reason being, most patrons come repeatedly for the same dish that they relished on their previous visit.
The Gallery Café was the first restaurant in Sri Lanka to serve fusion cuisine and also the first to serve ‘typical’ Sri Lankan dishes such as Black Pork Curry with rice with traditional accompaniments, Prawn Curry with Rice all presented in a distinctive style known only to Shanth. Known for the consistency of the food served at the restaurant which has spanned 14 years; this has been the key ingredient to its success.

(ognp) The 9th Annual Sri Lanka Festival will be held at Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park in Shibuya Ward on 8th and 9thSeptember 2012.
It is envisaged that nearly 100 stalls and booths serving authentic Sri Lankan food, and displaying of precious gems and costume jewellery, herbal and ayurvedic products, cosmetics, brass and silver ornaments and wood carvings, ceramics, diverse varieties of Sri Lankan tea from different regions of the country, a variety of pure Sri Lankan spices, and Sri Lankan garments including that of hand woven textiles and batik will be available at the venue.
There will also be a Grand Raffle Draw which would include four return air tickets to Sri Lanka, among others.

Malaysian High Commissioner H E Azmi Zainudin and Mr. Rohit Khosla General Manager will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally launch the Malaysian Food Festival on September 7, in the presence of luminaries from the corporate, media and diplomatic circle.
Connoisseurs can flock to the Latitude at Taj Samudra to experience the diverse flavors and aromatic scents of Malaysian cuisine especially whipped up by visiting Malaysian Chefs Mohd Zahar Bin Yahaya and Khairul Anuar Bin Md Nazir from the Rebak Island Resort in Langkawi.

The menu compiled for this promotion has been carefully conjured by the two Chefs keeping the Sri Lankan palette in mind. This year, the tempting appetizers range from pineapple salad, mini rice flour cake and fresh spring roll with stir fried beef to glass noodle with seafood salad.
Guests will also be treated to sour fish soup and crab meat soup during the promotion. The action stations would feature deep fried sweet potato with taro and prawn fritter, Vietnamese pancake and tempting desserts such as deep fried banana cake and chilled longan with lotus seed, baked cassava cake.
